Exploring possibilities…Lots of great ideas are shared with us, by our guests and staff.  This new year brings three great new ideas to light.

The University of Maine at Farmington has been providing Saddleback with some very eager interns.  They are working in marketing, events, and the terrain park.  Well, they came up with an idea to have lights in the Freerider Terrain Park on Friday nights, break out the fire pit and serve food and drinks outside, essentially create a Friday Night Lights Rail Jam.  We‘re going to try it out, beginning, Friday, January 14 from 4-8pm.  You do not need a lift ticket, it is free.

For the past two years Jared Emerson, the Ski Patrol and Terrain Park Manager at Saddleback has been attending “Cutter’s Camp”.  It is a weeklong camp that focuses on grooming technique, snow management and on the snow event planning and safety.  His bright idea was to offer instruction and tips to terrain park users.  The crew working in the Freerider Terrain Park will introduce skiers and riders to the features available.  They will offer tips on form and technique.  Each week a new trick will be introduced.  The Sunday in the Park tutorials will take place each Sunday from 11am-1pm.  Terrain park crew members will be equipped with video and still cameras.  They can shoot your run for you to review.  It sounds like a great way to improve skills while doing what you love.

Saskia Reinholt a local artist and owner of the Reinholt Gallery of Fine Art and Furniture, has been offering art classes for adults in Rangeley.  A number of Saddleback staff, including me, took her stained glass making class.  It was wonderful.  Saskia is a gifted artist and a natural teacher.  So, now Saskia and Saddleback are offering a Children’s Art Program, après ski each Saturday from 4:30-6pm in the fireplace Room.  Each class focuses on a different medium.  The classes are $20 per student.  You can register online at www.saddlebackmaine.com.

If you have a bright idea you think we might like let us know.  We might try it.
